Top 10 recommended books

Learn from the books I turn to...
The following books stand head and shoulders above the competition. Each one is a category leader that has numerous lessons to teach.

Criteria
My enthusiasm for the following books is based on numerous factors, including:

  • Information density. Does the book offer genuine information not available elsewhere? Does the book offer genuine insights and leave you with a information that will be of lasting value?
  • Writing style. Is the book a pleasure to read? Does the author's enthusiasm and style come through on each page?
  • Design and production quality. Is this an attractive book, one you'll be proud to keep? Is it attractively laid-out and easy to read?
  • Value. What happens when you divide price by information and pleasure? An expensive book can be a great value if it filled with useful information, fun to read and a delight to hold. A cheap "me-too" book that was thrown together to meet a publisher's deadline is a poor value.

This month's Top 10 recommended books

  1. On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
    by Stephen King.
Even though I am not a fan of Stephen King's fiction, I was overwhelmed by this book. It reads as fast as your favorite mystery or fiction book, but contains invaluable information that will inspire you and build your confidence. After reading this book, you'll feel you're a personal friend of Stephen King--and you'll want to immediately get started on your book. Lots of good, solid advice plus a fascinating look at the vulneraable side of one of America's most successful writers.

Even through written years before personal computers and the Internet were even a dream, this book contains valuable advice about writing effective advertising copy.
