Purpose
Design proceeds quickly to the extent that you have a clear idea of your publication's organization. Identifying the hierarchy of your publication's ideas makes it easy for you to apply emphasis where appropriate.

If you do not have access to a scanner, photocopy your photographs and use a marker to draw boxes around the parts that contain the most storytelling power. This indicates where you should crop out unnecessary details.

Note

Question 5 helps you identify pull quotes which summarize and draw attention to adjacent text.

Question 6 helps you identifiy where you should insert subheads to break long copy into manageable chunks.
